Framework Desktop: The Repairable Strix Halo AI Box

AMD AI Max+ 395, 128 GB, and you can open it. The Framework Desktop is the home AI server for people who want Strix Halo performance without a sealed appliance.

AMD’s Strix Halo / Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is the chip that made mini PCs suddenly relevant to local LLMs: a fat iGPU, a huge unified memory pool, and enough CPU that the same box can also be your daily driver. Framework did the Framework thing and put it in a desktop you are allowed to open.

Level1Techs and a year of forum charts later, the honest review is: memory capacity is the feature, bandwidth is the limit, and software maturity is the tax. 128 GB lets you load models that a 16 GB GPU simply cannot. Tokens per second will not embarrass a 5090. They will embarrass a laptop.

This is the AI home server you buy if you also want to replace a small tower, run LM Studio or llama.cpp, and still swap storage next year. It is the opposite of a sealed DGX. InteliToys likes both, for different kinds of nerd.

InteliToys is editorial. We do not sell Framework Desktop (Ryzen AI Max+ / Strix Halo). Watch the source tape in the branded lightbox below, then argue about it in Gear Junkies.
