Meta Partners With INCA to Put AI Glasses in the Hands of Blind and Low-Vision Canadians

The Ray-Ban Meta glasses maker teams with a 108-year-old nonprofit to fund accessibility research and supply wearable AI. "La meilleure technologie est conçue en collaborant avec ceux qui l'utiliseront," said Angela Bonfanti, president and CEO of INCA.

Meta is partnering with INCA, the Canadian nonprofit that has supported people with vision loss since 1918, to expand access to its AI-powered glasses among blind, deafblind, and low-vision Canadians — funding four areas of work at the organization and donating devices through its employment program.

The financial support, according to Meta, will advance inclusive innovation across four focus areas at INCA, though the company did not specify the dollar amount. Separately, Meta is contributing AI glasses through INCA's "Opening Doors to Work" initiative, which places the devices with Canadians seeking employment and career-building opportunities. That program offers training and practical resources so participants can assess how wearable technology might help them land a job, perform well in it, and meet their professional goals.

Meta's AI glasses — the Ray-Ban Meta line — already handle tasks like playing music, live translation, and hands-free calls for general consumers. For blind and low-vision users, the company said the glasses can read printed text, identify objects, and describe surroundings, supporting more independent daily living.

Maxine Williams, Meta's vice president of accessibility, framed the collaboration as a product-development exercise as much as a philanthropic one.

The Canada partnership follows similar Meta efforts elsewhere: the company donated Ray-Ban Meta glasses to every blind veteran in the United States through the Blinded Veterans Association and has worked with Vision Ireland on accessibility initiatives.
