The AI-wearables shakeout has its first big-tech acquisition. Limitless, maker of the Pendant that records and summarizes conversations, has been acquired by Meta, co-founder and CEO Dan Siroker announced on the company's site.

Siroker tied the deal to Meta's stated plan to bring personal superintelligence to everyone through AI-enabled wearables. The practical effect for shoppers is immediate: Limitless will stop selling the Pendant to newcomers.

Existing owners come out ahead in the short term. Limitless says it will support current Pendant customers for at least another year, subscription fees are gone, and everyone gets the Unlimited Plan free. Non-Pendant features such as Rewind are being shut down, regional availability will change, and continuing users must accept an updated privacy policy and terms. A new export tool lets owners download their data, and deletion remains available in the app.

The move leaves the standalone AI memory market to rivals like Bee, Omi and Plaud, and sets up Meta's glasses as the likely home for this technology going forward.
