The humanoid robot race has mostly played out in factories and demo videos. 1X is trying to move it into the living room, and it is now accepting $200 deposits on NEO, a robot pitched squarely at household chores.

Owners hand NEO a list, set a time and come back to finished tasks such as putting away dishes or cleaning a bathroom. NEO works autonomously by default. When it meets a job it does not know, the owner can book a remote 1X specialist to coach it remotely, which gets the task done and teaches the robot at the same time.

The design reads like a safety brief. 1X says NEO uses fewer components to stay lightweight, runs quieter than a modern refrigerator, wraps its internals in a deformable 3D lattice for cushioning and moves with tendon-driven actuators meant to be gentle around people. A knit suit finishes the look.

NEO also talks: it answers questions, gives recipes and advice, and pairs visual and spatial awareness with memory for more personal help. Whether remote-expert assistance becomes a privacy sticking point will be one of the big home-robot debates of 2027. Official videos are below.
