Agility Robotics says it plans to significantly expand its presence in Pittsburgh with a new 50,000-square-foot facility, announced October 21. According to the company, the site will serve as its center of excellence for software and AI, with a focus on Digit skill development and software enablement, while also acting as a major hub for customer deployment and support teams. Agility says the facility will add approximately 35,000 square feet to its existing Pittsburgh footprint, and that it will increase the company's capacity to deploy, monitor, service and continuously improve Digit as its customer base grows.

Agility says the investment comes amid growing customer momentum for Digit, its humanoid robot. According to the company, Digit is already operating with GXO, Schaeffler and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, and Agility says it is expanding its customer base with four additional customers across automotive, consumer goods and agriculture. Agility also says it has secured more than $300 million in multi-year orders for Digit 5, subject to satisfaction of certain contractual milestones, and that it announced a new pilot with AGCO earlier in October.

Agility says the new facility will bring together teams responsible for supporting Digit fleets in customer operations, deploying new robots and workflows, validating customer applications, developing and validating new skills, and providing complex robot service and repair. According to the company, dedicated space will allow Agility and its customers to validate customer workflows through proof-of-technology evaluations, while teams develop and test new Digit skills using both simulation and physical environments. Agility says the facility will also become home to its East Coast service center, complementing existing service capabilities at RoboFab in Salem, Oregon.

Agility says bringing software and skill development closer to the teams supporting robots in customer environments will help it use real-world deployment experience to inform new capabilities and continuously improve Digit. The company says it plans to hire software engineers, AI engineers, service technicians, deployment specialists and team leaders in Pittsburgh as it expands its operations, and that it expects first employee access to the new facility by the end of the year.

Agility says the Pittsburgh expansion complements its broader U.S. infrastructure for scaling commercial humanoid robotics. According to the company, RoboFab in Salem, Oregon, serves as its manufacturing and operations center, while its Fremont, California, facility is focused on hardware and physical AI development, and Pittsburgh will serve as its software and AI center of excellence and a major hub for customer deployments and service. Agility also says it is preparing to become a public company through its previously announced business combination with Churchill Capital Corp XI, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Agility says the new Pittsburgh facility is part of its effort to build the infrastructure needed to support humanoid robots throughout their working life. According to the company, that means developing new skills, deploying them into customer operations and supporting deployed fleets so robots stay productive every day, and Agility says the expanded Pittsburgh presence brings those capabilities together in one location.
