Agility Robotics Puts NVIDIA IGX Thor Inside Digit 5 as It Prepares the Humanoid for Commercial Scale

The next-generation humanoid will standardize its onboard compute on NVIDIA IGX Thor modules and add NVIDIA Halos safety models, with early access expected in the first half of 2027. Agility Robotics says its next-generation humanoid, Digit 5, will standardize its onboard compute on NVIDIA IGX Thor modules. In a press release published on its own site, the Salem, Oregon company says the transition establishes NVIDIA as the exclusive provider of onboard compute for the general availability version of Digit 5, and that the new architecture unifies the robot's compute around a single platform rather than a mix of hardware.

The compute change builds on a safety collaboration Agility announced earlier with the NVIDIA Halos platform for physical AI deployments. Agility says it is integrating NVIDIA IGX Thor and additional NVIDIA Halos models into its proprietary safe human detection system for Digit, and that these integrations are intended to expand the robot's current perception capabilities, support connections to a broader ecosystem, and facilitate its ongoing certification and deployment efforts. The company says it was the first to announce with NVIDIA that it would incorporate elements of NVIDIA Halos into its own safety system.

Agility also says it will participate in the NVIDIA Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab to support the evaluation of Digit's safety-related software, AI components and cybersecurity protections ahead of final third-party certification. That framing matters for the buyers Agility is targeting: the company says early access to Digit 5 is expected to begin in the first half of 2027, with increasing availability over the following six to nine months for manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operators.

The two executives quoted in the release describe the move as an engineering decision rather than a marketing one. Deepu Talla, Vice President of Robotics and Edge AI at NVIDIA, says bringing humanoid robots to commercial scale requires AI computing and safety to be engineered together, and that standardizing Digit 5's onboard compute on NVIDIA IGX Thor while incorporating NVIDIA Halos into its safety system brings those capabilities together ahead of broader deployment in factories and warehouses. Pras Velagapudi, Chief Technology Officer of Agility Robotics, says humanoid robots need to perform useful work reliably and safely in customer operations, and that moving to NVIDIA Thor modules gives the company a common foundation as it advances Digit's capabilities.

Agility describes itself in the release as a humanoid robotics and physical AI company headquartered in Salem, Oregon, with offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Fremont, California, and says its general-purpose humanoid Digit is commercially deployed today with more than 65,000 hours of real-world operation. The company also notes it is preparing to become a public company through a previously announced business combination with Churchill Capital Corp XI that is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, after which the combined company would operate as Agility Robotics and is expected to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol AGLT.
